Many of our outdoor traditional saunas — including the Paxton barrel saunas and the 6-Person Patchwork Red Cedar Barrel Sauna — are built from weather-resilient cedar specifically because it holds up beautifully across seasons. Cedar is naturally resistant to moisture and temperature fluctuations, making it a trusted material for outdoor sauna builds. We recommend a level, sheltered surface and proper ventilation to get the most from your setup over time.
Most of our traditional saunas are powered by 6KW to 9KW electric heaters, which typically reach operating temperature within 30 to 60 minutes depending on the model and ambient conditions. Running a sauna for a one-hour session is generally comparable to using other high-draw home appliances like an electric oven or clothes dryer.
